A
little history about Southwest
In
1933, Congress passed legislation creating Production Credit Associations
to establish a more effective delivery system to meet farmers' and ranchers'
needs for short- and intermediate-term credit. Over time, many changes have
taken place in the Farm Credit System, but one goal has never changed
the Farm Credit System remains committed to serving the credit needs of
agricultural producers and operators across the nation. Farm
Credit Services Southwest predecessors began in 1917 in the Imperial Valley
by making long-term real estate loans. We offered operating loans in the
Imperial Valley in 1933 and in Arizona in 1934. Farm Credit Services Southwest
has a long heritage of financing agriculture.
What
is a "cooperative"?
When
you become a Farm Credit Services Southwest borrower, you become a member
of a financial cooperative with stockholder voting rights.
